Those Worrisome Weeds
Using Pre-Emergent Herbicides

How do you get rid of weeds? Don't give them a chance to grow. Thousands of dormant weed seeds scattered about your lawn (and landscape), lie in wait for spring rains. Once the rains start the seeds sprout and grow. By applying a pre-emergent weed preventer now, you can kill the weed seeds as they germinate.

Pre-emergent weed killers work to control weeds before they emerge (begin growing). They lay down a barrier over the soil which either prevents weed seeds from germinating or kills them shortly after they do.

Preen for Lawns is the first crabgrass preventer and dandelion killer that also fertilizes for up to 4 months. It contains a selective pre-emergent (Team) and post-emergent (Confront) for the most effective weed control. So, it eliminates dandelions, viney weeds, broadleafs, clover and other weeds while it prevents crabgrass - all season long. Preen for Lawns features a residual "reach-back" action that continues to kill emerging weeds after application. It also contains a long-acting composite fertilizer that reacts to temperature and moisture conditions, ensuring lush, even greening for a whole season. And, with just one step. Best of all, Preen for Lawns can be applied to wet or dry lawns, any time of the day, any time of the year.

Corn Gluten is a non-selective, organic, pre-emergent herbicide and slow release organic fertilizer for the control of broadleaf weeds, and annual and perennial grasses. It can be used on the lawn as well as around flower, vegetable and herb gardens and crops, annual and perennial plants, bulbs, roses, fruit, ornamental and shade trees and shrubs. Corn Gluten controls weed seeds by releasing organic dipeptides into the soil and inhibiting root formation of germinating weeds. Apply Corn Gluten before weed seeds germinate then water thoroughly. Reapply in 4-6 weeks.

Crabgrass

Dimension works very well for crabgrass and often provides season long control with one application. It also provides post emergence control of crabgrass when the plants are first visible and are at the 2-3 leaf stage with no more than two tillers. Apply mid-March to mid-May. Delay seeding for 14—16 weeks.
